Showpiece Update December 2025

Dear Collectors, 

Showpiece began with a clear vision: to make the world's most incredible items accessible to everyone. We are proud to have done so with truly special pieces from the worlds of Stamps, Coins, Books, and Art; however, as we look ahead, we've made the strategic decision not to launch further assets and will instead explore suitable offers for our existing collection.  In the event of a serious offer for any items you own, you will still be asked to vote on the outcome.   In the event of a sale, proceeds will be distributed to collectors based on the number of pieces owned.  The only item currently under offer is Banksy’s Valentine’s Day Mascara, which collectors voted in favour of selling at a price 20% above their purchase cost. The sale is complex and has been moving slowly, but we hope to share an update shortly.

The remaining items will stay in safe hands, and we’ll take every opportunity to highlight and celebrate them. We're in no rush to sell, but when a suitable opportunity arises that benefits everyone, we will bring it to the Showpiece community to help decide the future. 

Marketplace

Some users have experienced issues accessing the Secondary Marketplace to sell their pieces; therefore, we will be replacing it by the end of January; until then, the current marketplace functionality will be removed. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused, and we will ensure the replacement is live as soon as possible.

FAQs

- Why is Showpiece not launching more items 

The only commercially viable option we could identify, limited ownership to high-net-worth individuals. This contradicted our desire to make ownership universally available; therefore, we decided not to pursue additional offerings.

- Is Showpiece Technologies Limited closing down

No, the limited company is not shutting down; we are exiting the assets we manage and will not be launching any more. Showpiece will remain as the trustee.

- How am I protected?

The items are held in separate trusts, and the agreement is governed by recognised and widely used elements of English Law.   A vote is still required to complete a sale, with 60% of votes cast in favour, and the items remain protected and insured.

- Do I still own the item

Yes, your legal beneficial ownership remains as detailed in the deeds provided at the point of purchase or receipt of a gift

- Are the items insured and protected?

Yes, the pieces are fully insured. The 1c Magenta, Edward VIII Penny, Warhol RQ and Darwin Origin of Species are stored in a vault in central London. Banksy’s Valentine’s Day Mascara is on display in Margate at the Wonder Works.

- Can I visit/View

If feasible, we will continue to exhibit some of the items stored in the vault, and the Banksy Mural remains open to the public during Wonder Works’ opening hours.

- Why is the marketplace not working

A number of users were having difficulty setting up their accounts to access the Marketplace; therefore, we are replacing it.

- Can I sell my pieces 

Yes, a new marketplace will be opened by the end of January, allowing you to list your pieces.  We'll contact owners soon with details about how to list pieces. 

- Can I sell my VDM pieces

Banksy’s Valentine’s Day Mascara remains under offer, and therefore, it is not possible to sell pieces. If the sale has not completed when the new marketplace opens in January we will update collectors regarding the ability to offer VDM pieces for sale.  

- How will I get paid when an item sells? 

We will transfer the funds into a bank account of your choice using a reputable payment provider.

- Will you buy back my pieces

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a buy-back service on the pieces you own

- Will I lose my money?

We will only consider reasonable offers for the items, and a majority of collectors will still need to vote in favour of a sale, as per the Terms of Purchase, which protects your financial interests.

- How does voting work

We will share a survey link requesting your email, the number of pieces owned and whether you vote for or against accepting the offer. Each piece equals one vote. After the vote closes, if 60% of the votes cast are in favour of accepting the offer, the piece will sell. If a 60% majority is not reached, the item will remain in our care until another offer is made.
